What Should 12 Years Get Me?

Can you remember your first day of school, middle school, or high school? Do you connect certain songs with favorite or not so favorite memories? Who has had the most influence in your life?--These are all questions I can easily remember and respond to, even at my old age.

As a student in high school, young folks should be able to reflect on all these questions as well. Sometimes we run through life not realizing that the world is shaping and molding us. We can control our "worlds" or let our "worlds" control us.

I believe that my years in school (through high school) have led me back to teaching. I have fond memories and memories in which I struggled. Both types have molded and made me who I am today. It is from these memories that I am almost driven to help and guide younger folks in positive directions. Somedays I feel I succeed and others I know I have failed. When I feel that I have failed, I become disappointed in myself. Students see me as being "grumpy" but I just feel sadness at not succeeding in giving them another small piece of the puzzle that may make up the "big picture" of their lives. A positive picture that someday they would consider a fond memory they have collected over the last 12 years.
